Here at Kalusto Furniture, we have seen our fair share of mishaps. Young hopefuls and furniture veterans alike will dream up a fantastic new ‘look’ for a room, sometimes the whole home and then they will embark on a monumental furniture shopping spree. The problem? Many simple rules of thumb and careful planning can sometimes go out of the window as these furniture buyers strive to make their furniture vision a reality. Take it from us, as an experienced furniture supplier we have seen it all before. Here we will list some of the most common mistakes these individuals make so you can avoid turning your Kalusto Furniture, into a furnishing nightmare.
Forgetting to measure your furniture
We cannot state often enough the importance of measuring your room and your furniture. Just because that beautiful table clearly has enough space to sit in the middle of your dining room, it does not mean to say you have enough space to get it there in the first place. The number of failed deliveries we encounter because of this is unbelievable. With more and more homes being packed into smaller development plots, it can sometimes be easy to forget that doorways and hallways often fall victim to this lack of space and are consequently smaller. This does not bode well for those looking to get a large leather sofa into their living room. So to avoid disappointment, measure your doorways, hallways, stairwells, elevators and anything else that might impede your lovely new furniture purchase making it into your home.
Ignoring who will really be using your furniture
So you have just bought a suite of living room furniture in a brilliant white. It has been delivered, your pre-emptive home measuring meant your purchase now sits where you hoped and you feel rather pleased with yourself. That is of course, until the muddy dog tramples all over your new leather sofa and the children begin to use your white furniture as a blank canvas for all those artistic gifts you bought them last Christmas.
This is often an overlooked factor in furniture buying. Just because it looks pristine and brilliant in the showroom or online, it does not mean to say it will stay that way without proper care. If you happen to have a family who do not value your furniture as much as you do, scuffed table edges and torn chairs are not so much likely, but more of a certain eventuality.
Before you part with your hard earned cash, have a good think about how these furnishings will be used each day and by whom. Do you have messy children and furniture hungry pets? Do you eat whilst watching TV in your armchair? Do your mates put their feet on your table? Not only will these things better inform your purchase so that you buy something more suitable, it will also save you a lot of heartache in the long run.
Ignoring scale
Ignoring scale is another oft-forgotten factor when purchasing furnishings in-store or online. Furniture scale is commonly forgotten simply because the show rooms and online photos where these goods are viewed do not take into account the furniture and the size of room you already have at home. If you happen to be purchasing bedroom furniture, be it a bed or a bookcase, consider how it sizes up against that ancient wardrobe you already have sat in the corner. If you are lucky enough to have high ceilings, will your new minimalist contemporary furniture be lost in all of that airy space? Just remember to bare these factors in mind.
Buying into short-term fads
Just because it is all over vogue and features in the latest and greatest interior design publications, it does not mean to say that the same look will be quite as ‘chic’ in one or two years time. If you decide to buy into a minimalist theme or the vintage feel of ‘rough luxe’ have a think about it. Are you buying into the trendy opinions of the columnists and the feel good feeling of trend setting? Or are you buying into it because this look will suit you comfortably for another decade? Remember, the only person you need to really impress and keep comfortable is yourself, oh and possibly your friends and family.
Here at Kalusto Furniture we love it when our customers are able to build the home of their dreams. At the same time, it disheartens us when we see a minority of our customers having issues after neglecting to address the points above. If you need living room furniture, sideboards, units, or maybe even an item from our clearance furniture range; be sure to get in touch. We will be glad to help you!
